THE CALL OF THE FAR-AWAY HILLS was learned from Freeman Thomas of Jacksonville, Ark. For a long time, we believed the song to be one of the many fine, traditional western melodies Freeman plays on the harmonica. A few years ago, Joe Hickerson readily identified it as the theme to the 1952 movie, "Shane." The music was written by Victor Young with words by Mack David. ©1952, Paramount Music Corporation
