Big Scioty

(Traditional)

Hammered dulcimer-Cathy; guitar-Dave; fiddle-Paul; piano-Win; banjo-Leela; mandolin-Ellie

The Scioto River runs south down the middle of the state of Ohio and joins the Ohio River at Portsmouth. Fiddler Burl Hammons is credited with most versions of the tune, and played more than one version himself during his life. We learned this version from Leela, Cathy's best banjo student, who with her sister, Ellie, contributed much to this and other musical arrangments on this album.
